Located about 15 miles east of Beaufort, Hunting Island was at one time used for stalking deer, raccoon and waterfowl. Today, the island serves as a preserve for South Carolina's flora and fauna. One of the more popular features at Hunting Island is the 19th century lighthouse, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
