Audubon Newhall Preserve
Flora and fauna abound at the pristine Audubon Newhall Preserve. Originally a cotton plantation of over 17,000 acres, Boone Hall Plantation has one of the most majestic avenues of moss-draped live oaks in the South, planted in 1743. Located about 15 miles east of Beaufort, Hunting Island was at one time used for stalking deer, raccoon and waterfowl. Today, the island serves as a preserve for South Carolina's flora and fauna.
